B-52 Stratofortress

The B-52 if still being flown in the year 2000 will have been around for 40 years and it will still be one of USA's main nuclear deterants.

Even with the B-52's vulnerability to surface to air missles and the exestance of the B-1 and B-2, the B-52 is still going strong due to the $1 billion that have been spent on the 230 still in the fleet to improve thier safety , reliability, performance and weapon-delivery accuracy.

The plane has gone through many changes in models over the years from the B-52A all the way to the currently used B-52G and H models.

It has 8 17,000lb thrust Pratt & Whitney TF33-P-3 turbofans With a maximum speed of 595mph and a cruising speed of 509mph and a maximum take-off wieght of 488,000lbs.
